9 Yoga Festival Dos and Don’ts

February 21, 2025 by Ravi Chermala
Yoga Festival Dos and Don’ts

Attending your first yoga festival is an exciting time. Between all the classes, workshops, vendors, meeting new people, amazing scenery – it’s a fun time.

But, attending one of these events often requires a lot of planning and even traveling. So, you want to make sure you get the most out of it.

To do that, check out my list of the top 9 dos and don’ts for attending yoga festivals.

Do: Research the festival

With so many yoga festivals happening all over the world, you want to attend the one that is right for you. Plus, you want to have a plan for when you show up! Look up the schedule, instructors, and available workshops to find what peaks your interest.

Don’t: Overbook yourself

It will be impossible to attend every single session or workshop. Instead, choose ones that resonate most with you and allow time for rest.

Do: Pack appropriately

Knowing what to wear to a yoga festival can be tricky. Remember to bring comfortable clothes, a yoga mat, water bottle, sunscreen, and yoga props you might need. You may also want to bring a journal for notes and reflections.

Don’t: Overpack

Whether you’re going for a day or a week, you don’t want to clutter your space or backpack with unnecessary items. Plus, yoga festivals usually have a vendor market, so you’ll want space to take back some treasures! Pack light and bring only the essentials.

Do: Arrive early

This applies to the festival itself as well as classes. Getting to the venue early lets you familiarize yourself with the surroundings. Plus, you can secure good spots for classes and workshops. If you can, try to book classes online.

Don’t: Be disruptive

Yoga is all about mindfulness, so you don’t want to cause unnecessary distractions to your fellow participants. Silence your phone during sessions, enter and exit respectfully, and avoid arriving late to classes.

Do: Take care of your body

There is a lot going on at these festivals, and it’s important to take care of yourself. Drink plenty of water, especially in the summer heat. Eat light, nutritious meals throughout the day. Listen to your body. During a yoga class, use any modifications and props you may need.

Don’t: Ignore your limits

It’s fun to try new things, but don’t push yourself beyond your physical or mental limits. Respect your body’s boundaries and rest when you need to. You don’t have to try to do it all.

Do: Respect personal space

Sometimes, it can be hard to find personal space at these events with so many people. But, be mindful of others’ personal space, especially during yoga classes.

Don’t: Neglect hygiene

It’s hot outside. You’re doing a lot of physical activity. You’re going to sweat – a lot. Keep your favorite deodorant, some body spray, and even some body wipes in your bag during the festival.

Do: Participate fully

Go into each session or activity with an open heart and mind. Take advantage of this diverse array of offerings, whether it’s a yoga class, guided meditation, or workshop. Try something new and give it your all!

Don’t: Criticize or judge others

This might be the first time you’re exposed to different ideas and practices. Embrace this diversity and don’t judge or criticize other people’s practices.

Do: Respect the teachers and organizers

Yoga festivals take a lot of work to organize. Follow instructions and guidelines provided by the instructors and festival organizers. Remember to show gratitude for their efforts in creating the event.

Don’t: Leave trash

Yoga festivals often take place in beautiful natural areas. We all need to protect the environment and be responsible for our own waste. Dispose of trash properly to keep the area clean. Follow any recycling guidelines provided by the festival.

Do: Be open to new experiences and ideas

Step out of your comfort zone! Yoga festivals offer so many opportunities to learn and try something new. Don’t go to classes you know you’ll be good at – do something you’ve never done before.

Don’t: Ignore safety guidelines

Pay attention to any safety instructions or guidelines provided by the festival. Follow protocols to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Do: Connect with others:

Use this opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and build new connections within the yoga community. Be open to sharing experiences and learning from others.

Don’t: Forget to enjoy

Remember, it’s all about being in the moment! Don’t get so caught up in the schedule that you forget to relax and enjoy the experience. Take moments to breathe, reflect, and soak in the atmosphere.
